The Coomloughra Horseshoe is the hardest but probably the most epic and magnificent hike of the semester. It is our first Advanced Hike where we will be summiting three of the highest mountains in Ireland; Caher (1001m), Beenkeragh (1010m) and Carrauntoohil (1040m). This hike will include steep accents and a ridge-walk across the infamous "Bones". This ridge-walk is very exposed, with steep drops on either side. There will also be some light scrambling involved (using your hands to get over or around rocks/boulders). You will need a good head for heights to undertake this hike. We recommend that you only apply if you've been comfortable on all previous hikes that you have attended (you must have attended at least 2, one of them being an Intermediate one). Distance: 13km, elevation gain: 1020m.
As always, hiking boots with ankle support are mandatory.
If you have any questions or concerns about whether this hike is suitable for you, please email mountaineering@uccclubs.ie.
